Workforce Development Training Programs

Commonwealth University offers a variety of workforce development programs designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in today's job market. Whether you're looking to launch a new career, advance in your current field, or update your skillset, we have a program to fit your needs.

Non-credit training programs are designed by a team of professionals from each respective field, providing you with effective face-to-face and web-based learning programs. Instructors/course mentors are actively involved in your learning experience, responding to any questions or concerns, as well as encouraging and motivating you to succeed. The training programs offered through Workforce Development are not part of academic degree programs.

Note: Most of our training programs are WEDnet funding eligible.

Commonwealth University is proud to offer online and in-person real estate courses for licensed real estate agents and aspiring real estate students looking to work toward their real estate license.

CDL Training

Learn everything you need to prepare for your entry-level driver training (ELDT) necessary to obtain your commercial driver's license (CDL).

Train to become a professional truck driver through Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg's certified CDL Driver Training program. The CDL programs include CDL Class A training in both full-time day classes, and part-time evening and weekend classes.

Our Computer Based Training (CBT) assists you in obtaining your Commercial Driver Permit with all endorsements. We offer lifetime job placement assistance to all graduates at no additional charge.

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)

Commonwealth University recognizes that college-level learning and skills acquired outside the traditional classroom occur in many places. In addition to traditional transfer credit for courses completed at another institution, Commonwealth University offers the opportunity to earn credit for your prior work, training, and life knowledge and apply it toward your associate's or bachelor’s degree.

Workforce and Economic Development Network (WEDnet)

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has created the opportunity for employers to train new and existing employees through the Workforce and Economic Development Network (WEDnet) program. Training is available to qualified in-state businesses and out-of-state companies relocating to the economic-friendly business climate of Pennsylvania — with funding accessed through WEDnetPA and made available by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

Financial Aid is available through the SallieMae Smart Option Student Loan program. Visit the SallieMae website and search for Commonwealth University of PA Workforce Development.

We do not offer payment plans directly through Commonwealth University. However, some of our vendors offer payment plans that you might be able to utilize.

Please contact your local PA CareerLink to inquire about WIOA, TAA or OVR funding availability for workforce development training programs.

Commonwealth University is an approved provider for Act 48 hours. We are currently offering online courses through our training and education partnerships. Pre-approved Act 48 courses can be found under the Ed2Go category of Teacher Professional Development.

In order to receive Act 48 hours for any a non-credit course or to check if your course qualifies for Act 48, please contact workforcedevelopment@commonwealthu.edu before registering.

Refunds

If you drop a class at least 4 business days before the start of the first class, you will receive a full refund. If you drop a class within 3 days of the first class, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations after the class start date.

If you pay by credit card, the refund will be issued as a credit to your account. Please allow 2-4 weeks for refund processing.

Note: Refund terms for some special courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences do not follow this standard refund policy and are outlined in your registration confirmation. Please Contact Workforce Development for details.

Cancellations

It may be necessary to cancel some classes for reasons beyond our control. The decision to cancel may be made 5-10 working days prior to the start of class. If your class is canceled, we will notify you and provide a full refund.

Registration Policy

When you register, please be ready to provide your full name (as it should appear on the certificate of completion), address, phone number (day and evening), email address, course title(s) and course number(s), and method of payment.

Check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or a letter requesting invoice from employer accepted.

Course registrations are accepted on a first come first serve basis. A person is not considered registered for a course until the course tuition is paid in full. 

All tuition and fees must be paid in full at least 7 days prior to the start of class.  

There must be a minimum paid enrollment in order to run a class. We reserve the right to adjust scheduled dates and times as needed to prevent cancelling classes.

Attendance Policy

All participants are expected to attend all scheduled classes, unless prior arrangements are agreed upon between the participant and the instructor.

Emergency Closing

Weather or other emergencies may require the university to close or delay opening. When this occurs, local radio and television stations are notified and the university website home page is updated with delay/closure. You may also email workforce@commonwealthu.edu for updates. Always be safe and make sound decisions about traveling in poor weather or other emergency conditions

Smoking is not permitted on university property.

Accommodations

Students who wish to confidentially disclose disability and request accommodations are invited to complete the online initial accommodation request form and submit disability documentation, or contact the Office of Disability Services for Students (ODSS) for more information.

ODSS is located in 205 Ulmer Hall, as part of the Student Success Center.
