Students prepare for Big Event

The Big Event is a student-run community service event at Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg that gives our students the opportunity to help and assist businesses and residents of the Town of Bloomsburg and it's surrounding communities.

This single-day community service event — started here at Bloomsburg in 2010 — and is held every spring semester by the Community Government Association of CU-Bloomsburg. By registering your group or organization, you'll have a great chance to serve local areas and gain community service hours. This event is open to all students on campus.  Students will be able to sign up when registration opens for the 2025 event.

The date of the 2025 Big Event is April 5, 2025.

We can always use your help, your donation can assist in covering the cost of trash bags, gloves, T-shirts, and other needed supplies to make this event happen each year. These supplies will help us clean up the town of Bloomsburg during our day of service. Every gift matters, no matter the size. Make your gift today!

In 2018, all the girls raked leaves that had accumulated since last fall from two giant pine oak trees! I just could not keep up and so there were many on the ground by spring. What a help these students were! And so pleasant. I depend on them and thank the university's organization each year for this effort to make The Big Event ... a great event!

In 2017 the group I had helped me move a very large compost to a raised bed, It was not easy, They were focused on me not lifting a finger to help them, and as you can see they made progress!

They are really polite. They are enthusiastic, and they work really hard, so it is cool to see college students involved in the town.

They are doing a wonderful job with the raking and getting the mulch up and raking up the sticks and the leaves. They are very kind, and we look forward to it every year.
