Commonwealth University's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs advances the research enterprise by overseeing research compliance and fostering a robust program of internally and externally funded research, scholarship, and creative activities on all CU campuses.

  • Provides leadership, resources, information, and guidance for faculty, staff, and student researchers.
  • Enhances academic excellence through the support of faculty, staff, and student research and scholarly activity.
  • Offers education and training to equip faculty, staff, and students with the skills to pursue extramural funding.
  • Ensures accountability, compliance, and stewardship for sponsored programs in accordance with all federal, state, and university policies, procedures and regulations.

Office Information

Institutional Review Board (IRB): CU-IRB reviews all research involving human subjects to ensure that study participants’ rights and welfare are protected, risk is minimized, and informed consent is given.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Biosafety Committee: IACUC and the Biosafety Committee ensure that non-human animal and DNA research activities comply with research standards, respectively.

IRBManager: IRBManager is the system researchers use to submit a study for CU-IRB review and approval.

InfoReady: ORSP administers internal competitions through InfoReady. Competitions include internal research and scholarship grants, faculty publication funding, and external limited submissions, among others.

Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activities (URSCA) Program: ORSP administers the URSCA program each summer, which pays student workers to pursue a substantial research question, contribute to a scholarly endeavor, or produce an artistic work under faculty mentorship.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania Research Institute (IUP-RI): ORSP has contracted with the IUP-RI for all of CU’s external pre-award grant needs, including funding identification, proposal development, budget creation, approval routing, and final submission to the funding agency.

Notice of Intent (NOI): Complete and submit this form when an external funding opportunity has been identified. Partial information is acceptable; the opportunity and contact information are enough.

Funding Search Form: Fill out and submit this form to request the IUP-RI’s help searching for funding.

Pivot-RP: Clarivate’s self-directed database and online suite of tools for researchers and faculty seeking available funding and potential collaborators. Access is via CU’s single sign-on (SSO).

Proposal Development: Information and links to guide work on proposal development with the IUP-RI.

CU Accounting Services: ORSP works closely with the grant accountants within CU’s Accounting Services. Grant Accounting is responsible for post-award grant administration and accounting, including expenditure analysis, approvals, and financial reporting.
