Martin Luther King Jr. Center (MLKC) serves as an educational safe zone for individuals of all backgrounds, nationalities, abilities, ethnic groups, sexual orientations, religions, and social identities.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) functions in collaboration with the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. Multicultural Affairs creates intercultural programs and provides educational workshops and outreach programs that foster all areas of diversity & multicultural understanding. The OMA also plans the commemoration of holidays including Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The OMA is located in the Martin Luther King Jr. Center (MLKC). The MLKC is dedicated to helping students cope with the challenges associated with succeeding and graduating from Mansfield University. The primary task of the MLKC is to advance and celebrate the diversity of our campus community and to advocate for the needs of its students.

Services

  • Assist students in adjusting to the university environment
  • Organize social and cultural activities
  • Sponsor personal development workshops
  • Facilitate forums, discussion groups, sponsor guest speakers and performers
  • Provide student information regarding university support programs
  • Advocate for student issues and concerns
  • Sponsor intercultural sensitivity forums
  • Collaborate with student organizations to sponsor cultural celebrations for the campus community and local region

Resources

The MLKC, in collaboration with Multicultural Affairs and other campus diversity partners, provides programs, conferences, educational tours, and cross-cultural activities that promote the exchange of cultural experiences. The MLKC houses these and other references materials available on loan for employee and student use:

  • Magazines
  • DVD's
  • Wide screen TV
  • Computer lab

The MLKC also serves as a location for community, club, and small group meetings, mentoring and tutoring sessions, personal development and diversity training workshops, cultural receptions, and multicultural celebrations.
