Fall commencement to be held Dec. 10

Bloomsburg, a Commonwealth University, will hold its Fall Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 10, in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. 

The ceremony for the colleges of Education and Human Studies, Health Professions, and Science and Technologywill be held at 10 a.m., and the ceremony for the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, and the Zeigler College of Business will be held at 2 p.m. 

A total of 400 students are graduating this fall, including 58 students earning master's degrees. More than 300 students will participate in the ceremonies. 

Brett McLaurin, professor in the Department of Environmental, Geographical, and Geological Sciences, will speak at the morning ceremony and Peter Doerschler, professor in the Department of History, Philosophy, and Political Science will speak at the afternoon ceremony. 

McLaurin has been with Bloomsburg University since 2007. He teaches undergraduate courses in geology, natural disasters, and geographical information systems, and has developed a course on the use of drones in environmental, geographical, and geological aerial mapping applications. He is also a recipient of the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Center 2021 Outstanding Teaching Award. 

Doerschler has spent 15 years on the faculty at Bloomsburg serving as department chair for several years. His scholarly interests are in the areas of European politics, immigration, democratization, and far-right movements. Doerschler is also the faculty advisor to the Model UN student club and has recently taken five students to a simulation conference where they addressed issues of human trafficking and Ukranian refugees as the Portuguese delegation.
