Lock Haven to Host Art Exhibition Featuring Work by Graduating Seniors

The artwork, by Faith Wandell, graphic designer, and Kayla Shutters, sculptor and painter, will be on display for free public viewing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a public reception on Thursday, May 11, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the gallery.

Both students are award-winning artists who have curated an exhibition of their works. "Animal Typography," designed by Wandell, features typography inspired by animals, and "The Human Experience" is an exhibition of sculpture and painting created by Shutters.

Wandell, a native of Lock Haven, uses her unique talents to create striking visual designs. She uses one of her favorite design elements, typography, to create a sense of playfulness and creativity. She applies her artistry to problem solving, communicating with others, and generating ideas. Each hand-drawn letter represents hours of careful consideration. Each mark is deliberate and carefully placed. Wandell has made designs for clients across the United States, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Florida.

Shutters' exhibition is a representation of her growth and accomplishments while attending Lock Haven University, and completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Both her sculptures and paintings represent figures - some depict struggle, while others depict strength. The work intends to spark discussion on the struggles that women and LGBTQIA+ members face and how they overcome such challenges. Shutters is originally from Wichita Falls, Texas, but has resided in Weedville, Pennsylvania for the last 14 years. She has studied in three-dimensional design, English and psychology at Lock Haven. Outside of her studies, she has worked on set design at the Millbrook Playhouse for the last two years.

During the reception, there will be the opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their works with them. Attendees will be able to view a variety of work incorporating graphic design, painting, and sculpture, representing several aspects of the art program at Lock Haven.
