Two important objectives drive coursework in the sport management major —  the acquisition of practical experience and the development of expertise in industry-specific coursework. Coursework is designed specifically to prepare you to excel in your career. Topics include sport marketing, management and leadership of sport, sport business finance, sponsorship and fundraising, sport law and ethics, sport governance, and sport media communications.

  • Experiential Learning: In addition to classroom learning experiences that include organizing charity athletic events, tournaments, and competitions, you’ll complete 15 credits emphasizing growth and development through practical experiential learning opportunities.
  • Industry-Leading Technology: CU’s Sport Management program assures you are ready to enter the industry with the skills you need to succeed. You’ll be trained in leading sports technology, such as, StatCrew, and HUDL. This technology, combined with state-of-the-art facilities and classrooms, makes for a dynamic learning environment that mimics the real-world experiences you’ll face in your professional career.
  • Accelerated Program: The accelerated program allows students in the Sport Management program to complete their B.S. and M.S. degrees in Sport Management in four (4) years and two (2) summers.
  • Sport Management Club: Students can get involved with the Sport Management Club that regularly plans guest speakers, alumni panels, volunteer opportunities at sporting events, trips to professional conferences, community engagement opportunities, and networking.

  19. Classify hierarchies in sport organizations and model how to resolve conflicts between competing parties through effective leadership and personnel management.
  20. Develop sport events including planning, evaluating, marketing and public relations.
  21. Create the vision and goals, including financial, of an organization and successfully convey and gain commitment to them.
  22. Differentiate legal issues relevant to sport organizations including sport personnel and the ability to determine appropriate solutions to legal problems.

The Sports Management Club is a student led organization which provides leadership roles for students and provides opportunities for:

  • Attending professional conferences.
  • Attending & volunteering at major sporting events.
  • Planning and organizing fundraising and charitable activities through sporting activities.
  • Hosting professional guest speakers & alumni panels.oHosting professional workshops for students, such as “Build Your Resume” day.

Graduate Studies

Alongside the B.S. in Sport Management, you have access to two accelerated programs in Sport Management that allows students to achieve a B.S. in Sport Management and an M.S. in Sport Management within five years when they meet the necessary academic qualifications of maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA in their undergraduate coursework. 

Hands-On Learning

Each year faculty plan multiple "outside of the classroom" experiences for students to apply what they learn in the classroom into real life. In addition to the College Football Playoffs, recent students have had the opportunity to work at the Super Bowl, NCAA Women's Final Four, NFL Draft, MLB Classic, the COTA F1 Race (Formula 1) and more.
