The minor in Risk Management and Insurance is intended to complement a student’s primary major and designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for success in risk management and insurance industry.

The program is open to all students, both business or non-business, and guides students through several fundamental courses to elevate their understanding of risk management and insurance.

Courses and Curriculum

Risk Management and Insurance Minor Requirements

  • 21 credits required for minor completion
  • Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.

Minor Requirements

Students who complete the program will be able to: 
  1. Discuss the importance and value of risk management and insurance. 
  2. Explain the role of regulation and how insurance law and contracts function.
  3. Define and explain major types of insurance – life, health, property, commercial insurance  
  4. Define and explain retirement plans and estate planning
