This minor will enhance study within students' major areas of study by facilitating exploration of linguistics and its significance across disciplines, by offering opportunities to engage in linguistics-focused research and discussion, and by bringing together a cohort of faculty and students across campus who share a passion for language study.

  1. Apply tools of linguistic analysis to English and other languages.
  2. Articulate an understanding of the complex and varied connections between linguistic diversity and linguistic variation and society.
  3. Explain the application of linguistics and language study in a variety of professions, as well as the relevance of linguistics and language study in one’s everyday life.
  4. Develop a career plan that merges their primary field of study and the knowledge gained through fulfilling the requirements of the program.
