Dr. Patricia Lawton has been a speech-language pathologist since 1993 and holds the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, a Level II teaching certificate from PA Department of Education, and a PA professional license in speech-language pathology. She has a broad range of clinical experience with particular expertise in working in the school-based environment and early intervention. Her clinical expertise includes the areas of autism, fluency, school-based practice, and dealing with challenging behaviors that impede learning.
Dr. Lawton holds a Ph.D. in Administration and Leadership Studies and researches the field of communication sciences and disorders using leadership and sociological theory. Her dissertation research focuses on the professional identity of school-based speech-language pathologists in Pennsylvania. This research provides information on the issues impacting the professional identity verification process for school-based practitioners and how these difficulties influence their decision-making process.
Dr. Lawton is also certified in tele-practice and provides students with clinical knowledge and examples from her experiences in school-based practice, early intervention, outpatient, long-term care, home health, and private practice settings. Dr. Lawton is also a local leader in the community including candidacy for public office.
