Linda Maldonado PhD, RN is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the Breiner School of Nursing. She brings over 30 years of clinical experience in maternal child and women’s health nursing. Her doctoral work in the History of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing examined two renowned nurse midwives working with vulnerable communities of women in a 1970-1980 post-Civil Rights era. Upon completion of her doctoral work, she received an NIH T-32 Training Grant for research on vulnerable women, children and families at UPENN’s Center for Health Equity Research. Dr. Maldonado’s current area of scholarship examines urban, childbearing Puerto Rican women’s lives and the disparities that exist surrounding their maternal-infant health outcomes. In 2019, she was the inaugural recipient of the first grant mechanism from Sigma Theta Tau and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. Her deep commitment to peace and justice work with students in vulnerable communities, led to national recognition with the 2021 AL DIA Top Nurses Award within the academic category.
