Adobe Creative Cloud Licensing Changes
CATS will be relicensing all accounts for Adobe Creative Cloud the week of July 1, 2024. This will include all fac/staff and student accounts. Due to this, we strongly recommend moving any stored items, assets, or files to an alternative location external to Adobe Cloud.
Users may lose access to Adobe Creative Cloud on June 28, 2024. They should regain access by July 3, 2024. We understand a new summer session is starting on July 1 and will do our best to get things operating in a timely manner and hopefully ahead of this schedule. We have identified this schedule for change based on other changes that are to take place at that time. The timeline is also subject to change based upon those changes. You can keep up to date by accessing this help desk article.
Please read the below information about these changes and how to proceed with licensing of accounts and requests for Adobe Creative Cloud.
If you have any questions please contact Chaya Merell, Director of CATS.
Changes to Adobe Licensing: Effective June 28, 2024
You can keep up to date by accessing this help desk article
To maintain compliance with our Adobe contract and ensure smooth transition for any users with email changes happening, all current Adobe Creative Cloud licenses issued by Commonwealth University will be suspended on June 28, 2024. There may be a service disruption on and after this date until July 3, 2024. Users are strongly advised to stay out of Adobe Creative Cloud during this transition period.
Faculty and staff will continue to have access to Adobe Creative Cloud for work purposes. IF YOU HAVE A SECONDARY ACCOUNT THAT REQUIRES ACCESS TO ADOBE CREATIVE CLOUD, PLEASE FILL OUT THE BELOW FORM FOR THAT ACCOUNT:
Faculty and staff who require Adobe for teaching, research, or job functions for secondary accounts (department student workers, grad assistants, business division generic users, etc.) can order Adobe Creative Cloud for those accounts here.
Beginning on July 3, 2024, students will be granted licenses for Adobe Creative Cloud and other Adobe professional products as requested by instructors and supervisors for coursework in the remaining summer sessions. Students who need Adobe Creative Cloud for Fall will be licensed within a week of the beginning of the Fall semester.
Adobe Creative Cloud will be available only for academic or workplace needs, NOT for personal use.
If you have assets, files, or other items stored in your Adobe account online, you are strongly encouraged to download them and maintain these files in another location. Users should always maintain files outside of the Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed.
All current licenses issued by Commonwealth University will be suspended on June 28, 2024. Please back up or move your files to an alternate location as soon as possible- this is necessary also as Adobe Cloud File Sync is being discontinued.
After existing Adobe Creative Cloud licenses issued by Commonwealth University are suspended, all access to the files will be inaccessible until a new license is issued. (If you are currently using Adobe CC as faculty/staff, you should have access to ALL your files as soon as your license resolves in the Adobe portal- we do not foresee any issues with this and have been working with Adobe technical team to ensure smooth transition and no loss of IP).
If you are relicensed, you will be able to retrieve previously saved files in Adobe Cloud.
If you are NOT relicensed, you will NOT be able to retrieve previously saved files in Adobe Cloud.
Users should always maintain files outside of the Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed.
Users no longer affiliated with Commonwealth University will be purged, along with their files.
If you are teaching a course that will require Adobe Creative Cloud for student use, please fill out this form and include the term, course subject, number, and section number:
This will add your course to our list which will be licensed for the semester/session in which it occurs. This will license students in your course for the semester they are taking the course, plus two weeks. Students will gain access to Adobe Creative Cloud one week prior to the start of the semester or session requested, and one week after the end of the semester/session. After the semester/session, they will be unlicensed and lose access to Adobe Creative Cloud within one week.
Again, it is very important for users to maintain files outside of Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed!
You can’t transfer your CU files to your personal account via Adobe. To retain your files, you must back them up to an alternate location external to Adobe Cloud prior to the June 28, 2024 suspension date. Any files you have not backed up will NOT be available or retrievable unless you have a license associated with your CU account, which all fac/staff should have.
Yes you can. But you must use a non CU email address to place your personal order. Do NOT use your CU email address.
You can only cancel Adobe for a full refund if cancellation is within fourteen days of purchase.
No. You can use the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF documents.
Free, Adobe Acrobat Reader lets you view, print, share, annotate, and digitally sign a PDF form or document without use of Creative Cloud.
You need to maintain your files outside of Adobe Cloud. Once your CU account is no longer functional, you will also not be able to access your Adobe Creative Cloud account.
Users should always maintain files outside of the Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed.
