At first glance, it looks as if Kelsey Lowrey-Drolsbaugh '22 began her career as a child welfare professional when she completed her undergraduate internship.  Or maybe it was when she graduated from Bloomsburg. Perhaps it was when she landed her first professional position.

In reality, her career started as a student tour guide for the Admissions Office.

"Working in Admissions provided so much additional exposure," recalled Lowrey-Drolsbaugh. "[It] allowed me time to practice my skills and truly know I was meant to help children and families."

Lowrey-Drolsbaugh also credits the advisors who helped her identify career goals, connect with industry professionals, encourage post-graduate credentials, and obtain the internship that led to her first position after graduation.

"I get to help kids achieve their dreams of making it to college because of the knowledge I gained from admissions and the passion fueled by the social work program," said Lowrey-Drolsbaugh.

Now a Placement Caseworker III for Juniata County Children and Youth, Lowrey-Drolsbaugh works with independent living coordinators to assist teens in foster care understand the post-high school opportunities available to them, including college applications and what to expect from, and how to adjust to, the college experience. The decision to return to campus as an alumni volunteer was easy. She often speaks to students about her experiences and encourages them to confide in faculty and staff members. Her favorite memory is sharing the ways Bloomsburg changed her future at the most recent Accepted Student Days.

"[Faculty and staff] can be there to help you and make your dreams become reality," said Lowrey-Drolsbaugh, who will complete her Master's degree this May. She has every intention of continuing to share her wisdom with current students. In fact, she encourages other alums to do the same.

"You never know how your story or experience could impact them in whatever stage of their college journey," explained Lowrey-Drolsbaugh. "It is always worth giving back because it could change their lives."

"[Bloomsburg] opened opportunities for me that I could never have imagined possible," said Lowerey-Drolsbaugh. I will have the chance to give back to my community because of Bloomsburg and the loving social work staff."
