Four Commonwealth University students presented their work at the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) Northeast Regional Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Conference on Oct. 28 and 29 at Eastern Connecticut State University.

The students, representing four departments (art, biology, chemistry, and English), presented their scholarly and creative activity with students from five other COPLAC universities. Alan Bennett, a faculty member in the art department at Mansfield, accompanied the students to the conference.

“This annual conference is a great opportunity for our students to share their research/creativity activity with their peers from other COPLAC schools and to learn about the work of students from other universities and disciplines,” said Dr. Gretchen Sechrist, chairperson of the Department of Psychology and COPLAC liaison.

The students who presented at the conference were:
•    Manuel Gutierrez (Department of Biology, Health Sciences, Bloomsburg) – Effect of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and PPAR / Activation in a Human Carcinoma Cell Line
•    Lucianna Minoia (Department of Art, Graphic Design, Mansfield) – Giavonna
•    Madison Shiner (Department of English, Creative Writing, Bloomsburg) – Through the Keyhole
•    Micah Yoder (Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mansfield)– Streamlining Diagnosis of Desmoplakin-Linked Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy

Anyone interested in learning more about the conference or additional research opportunities offered by the COPLAC consortium should contact Dr. Sechrist at gsechris@mansfield.edu.
