Ryan Feger, a sophomore accounting student at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven is the recipient of the Lock Haven University Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year.

Established, in 2020, by the LHU Alumni Association board of directors, the Legacy Scholarship awards $1,000 to up to four Lock Haven legacy students each year. A legacy student is defined as a child, grandchild, sibling or legally adopted dependent of a Lock Haven alumnus.

Feger is following in the footsteps of his father, Jeff Feger, who graduated from Lock Haven with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1994. The Fegers’ three-decade long Lock Haven connection instilled in Ryan a profound sense of pride, both in his academic pursuits, and his ultimate goal of one day taking over the family business currently run by his father.

While Jeff’s Haven pride factored into Ryan’s decision to enroll at CU-Lock Haven, he was also drawn to the university by its rich history and its close proximity to his hometown of Jersey Shore. The convenience of a short commute allows him to excel in his studies while working for his father who is training him to one day assume leadership of the family business.

Academically, Feger has excelled, maintaining a 3.94 GPA. He attributes much of his success to the dedication of his professors, particularly professor of accounting, Regan Garey.

Being a legacy student has also strengthened the special bond he shares with his father as the two have grown closer through their shared educational and career paths.

Feger says his experience as a Lock Haven student is not only preparing him academically, but has also reinforced the values instilled in him by his parents: hard work, dedication and the importance of striving for greatness.

Ryan's gratitude for The Haven is also evident in the pride he feels as a scholarship recipient.

“It’s a tremendous honor being the recipient of the LHU Alumni Legacy Scholarship,” Feger said. “The financial backing donors have provided me is truly making this journey a great one. It’s really easy to see why so many alumni never fall out of love with The Haven, and continue to support the university years after graduating.”
