Students and community members are invited to sing in the Commonwealth University-Mansfield Festival Chorus during the spring semester to perform the beloved Requiem by John Rutter and a dynamic rock cantata entitled "Creation."
Rutter's Requiem is a musical setting of parts of the Latin Requiem Mass with added psalms and biblical verses in English. A small orchestra will accompany the performance, which also features a soprano soloist.
"Creation," a Rock Cantata, is an exciting setting of the Genesis seven-day creation story filtered through the rhythms and harmonies of rock music from the 60s. A rock ensemble of guitar, bass, and drums will accompany the performance.
The Festival Chorus is a mixed chorus of about sixty voices, which is open to all university students as well as community singers. It meets every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with sectional rehearsals on Thursdays at 4 p.m. Under the direction of Dr. Peggy Dettwiler, the concert will be presented on Sunday afternoon, April 14.
Students may register for MUEN 301 to receive one academic credit. Singers only need to vocalize for placement in the soprano, alto, tenor, or bass sections. For more information, call Dr. Dettwiler at 570-662-4721 or write to pdettwil@commonwealthu.edu
