Making Shakespearean Connections

Students from all three Commonwealth University campuses traveled to Baltimore on Sunday, Feb. 23, to see a performance of It’s the Comedy of Error, Hon! by the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. 

With support from the Fred and Joan Miller Distinguished Faculty of Good Work Fellowship, Dr. Christina Francis (Bloomsburg) organized the trip for her students in English 390: Shakespeare. While the students normally interact in a synchronous zoom environment, this trip allowed those who participated to bond over the experience of viewing Shakespeare performed on a traditional thrust stage. 

Students shared stories of their campus life experiences on the shuttle ride to Baltimore and dissected the production together on the way home. One student remarked in the subsequent class discussion that she understood the play better when we watched the video production through class, but seeing the play live gave her an even better grasp of the material.
