Following the chapter's Centennial last semester, Alpha Sigma Tau's Zeta Chapter at Lock Haven was honored with the Elizabeth Wilson Excellence Award at the sorority's national convention held in Tampa, Florida, this summer.

The Elizabeth Wilson Operational Excellence Award is presented to collegiate chapters that exhibit excellence in chapter operations and management throughout the biennium. Lock Haven's Zeta Chapter was recognized for its exceptional work using MyChapterRoom to keep its governing documents updated and for timely reporting of new members, initiation, and class reporting.

Zeta chapter members in attendance at the convention were Natalie Wilson, president and social work major from Myerstown, and Sadie Nahman, vice president of organization development and business administration major from Waymart.

"Our chapter is full of gratitude for receiving this award because it recognizes the dedication that we have put into it over the years," Wilson said. "We have struggled over the past few years due to COVID-19 with member retention and recruitment. We quickly learned that we can overcome most obstacles thrown at us as long as we work together."

Despite the challenges, the Zeta chapter has increased its internal involvement due to their ability to keep their information easily accessible and organized through the MCR technology.

"Congratulations to LHU's chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau Zeta on receiving national recognition for operational excellence," said Bashar W. Hanna, Commonwealth University president.

The Zeta chapter's advisors, Amy Brooks and Colleen Reese Stiening, also attended the convention and were the recipients of the Yellow Rose Award honoring alumnae who have given long, faithful service to Alpha Sigma Tau. "Without Amy and Colleen, our chapter would not be where it is today," Wilson said.

The Zeta chapter is the longest-standing chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau and has been at Lock Haven since 1921. Since its establishment, more than 1,200 women have been initiated into the chapter. Today, the chapter continues to provide women at Lock Haven with a community of belonging, personal and professional development opportunities, and an outlet to contribute to the local Lock Haven community.

Two people standing together.
