The Haven Cupboard at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven recently welcomed employees from Avery Dennison in Mill Hall for a service event to honor the Juneteenth holiday (June 19).
In search of a community service project to celebrate Juneteenth, Avery Dennison reached out to Amy Downes, associate vice president of student success and campus life and Haven Cupboard director, to discuss the possibility of their employees helping out at the Cupboard.
On June 21, 14 Avery Dennison employees, joined by Downes and two Lock Haven students, volunteered their time at the Cupboard helping to organize and put away a variety of items to help prepare for summer students utilizing the program.
Lock Haven students who helped with the event were Allison Dezanet, of Kersey, and Madison Buxton, of Johnstown, both seniors and Cupboard employees.
“At the Haven Cupboard, we strive to be a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, so having a group who wanted to share and celebrate Juneteenth with us was an amazing experience,” Downes said. “It validates our mission to serve all and to do it with love in our hearts.”
