Degenstein Foundation, donors support nursing simulation center

For decades, the nursing department at Bloomsburg University has consistently ranked among the best in the state, having educated thousands for one of the most critical careers in the healthcare field.

To remain one of the top-tier nursing education programs, it is vital to stay current with innovative technology and training methods. A  new state-of-the-art nursing simulation center will be part of the upcoming McCormick Center renovation, which will emulate acute and outpatient care settings and provide the Bloomsburg nursing program with the opportunity to recruit and develop more qualified and prepared nurses to serve our region.

To help fund the project, the Charles B. Degenstein Foundation gave a $500,000 matching grant to support the creation of the Nursing Simulation Center on Commonwealth University’s Bloomsburg campus.

This state-of-the-art simulation center will meet the needs of students training to be professional nurses by improving their access to high-performance clinical practice environments to meet the intense and specialty clinical practice needs of advanced nurse practitioners.
In an effort to match the Degenstein Foundation gift, the Bloomsburg University Foundation has solicited and received gifts from several donors totaling $365,000 to support the renovation.

“We are forever grateful for the original gift from the Charles B. Degenstein Foundation to kickstart the support needed to complete the construction of this amazing facility,” said Bashar W. Hanna, president. “This project will benefit nursing students at Commonwealth University and community members throughout the entire region for decades to come.”

The Nursing Simulation Center will open in 2025.
