MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield University’s Advancement office has established the Legacy Scholarship to be awarded annually to two students whose parent, grandparent, spouse, or child received a degree from Mansfield University.
The Legacy Scholarship recently reached its funding goal thanks in part to a $20,000 gift from the Mansfield University Alumni Association.
The scholarship is supported by donations from MU Alumni Association Board members, Mansfield alumni, and friends of the university. A portion of the university’s licensing revenue generated from the sale of MU-branded merchandise will also support the new Legacy Scholarship. All proceeds from university licensing directly support MU scholarships.
“No one understands the value of a Mansfield education better than our alumni and that’s why we see so many multi-generational Mounties on campus each year,” explained Dr. Bashar Hanna, interim president of Mansfield University. “The Legacy Scholarship is a great way for alumni to support the next generation of Mounties who walk in their footsteps.”
Incoming first-time or transfer students who self-identify as a legacy student and meet the GPA requirements will automatically be considered for the Legacy Scholarship by the university’s scholarship committee. Two legacy students will be selected to receive the $1,000 scholarship with the ability to renew the award annually for up to four consecutive years.
“Mansfield University is known for our deep-rooted legacy families,” said Casey Wood, Executive Director of Advancement. “I am thrilled to share this exciting announcement and be a part of a program that celebrates our alumni and the value of a Mansfield education.
“This is step one,” exclaimed Wood. “I look forward to the day when all legacy students receive a renewable scholarship.”
