Dr. Ruben Berrios, associate professor of economics at Lock Haven University and three of his students, Hunter McClintock, Evelyn Ciaccia and Cassie Mitsch, recently assisted in the planting of 4,500 spruce trees in Sproul Forest above Renovo on April 30.

Many problems confront forest trees today, such as climate change and infestations of parasites. Large swaths of forest die out and need to be replanted.

Scouts from Lock Haven Troop 711, Davey family members, volunteers from the Pennsylvania Forestry Association (PFA), retired members of the PA Forestry Department and others also helped with the planting. Dr. James Bean, retired LHU faculty, also accompanied the group.

The volunteers were instructed by foresters Doug Damore and Butch Davey and the PFA provided lunch and drinks for the volunteers.
