Commonwealth University Nursing Honor Society Alpha Delta Nu members from the Clearfield and Lock Haven campuses donated the proceeds of its online apparel fundraiser to the Clinton County SPCA. The group raised and donated $376 to support their facility and animals.

Nursing students often see patients in hospitals that are anxious, sad or angry. Research evidence supports that animals can help lower blood pressure by inhibiting the release of a stress hormone called cortisol (National Institute for Health [NIH], February 2018). Not only do animals help with blood pressure but they also help with the patient's basic need for safety and security by providing the patients with comfort and increasing their feeling of support.

While presenting the donation to the SPCA, nursing students Candace Redis, of Westport; Shae Paxton, of Dillsburg; and Emily Dull, of Bellefonte were offered the chance to visit the animals that are awaiting adoption.
