National Survey on Student Engagement

Want to know how our students rate their educational experiences, interactions with faculty and peers, the campus environment, and more? Check out the National Survey on Student Engagement (NSSE) Spring 2022 results for CU and the campuses on the OIE web site under Surveys. The survey asks questions about best practices in higher education that lead to student success. As you reflect on the results, you may want to consider how your involvement can enhance your learning experience, student activities, clubs and organizations, and/or student services.

Provide Feedback on Draft Self-Study Design

Did you know that institutional accreditation allows students to receive federal financial aid to attend CU and ensures the institution meets quality standards related to your learning and student experiences? The process of writing a Self-Study for reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) — upon which CU is embarking—matters to you now and is important for maintaining the high value of your degree in the future. On behalf of the MSCHE Steering Committee, you are invited to review and provide feedback on our draft Self-Study Design, including the draft Institutional Priorities and Intended Outcomes. This is the first step in the reaccreditation process. Please use this feedback form to offer your comments on any part of the SSD by Friday, March 3. For more information about MSCHE, accreditation, or the Self-Study process, please contact Cori Myers at cmyers@commonwealthu.edu or Amy Way at away1@commonwealthu.edu

Early College Information

Information about CU’s Early College program can be now found at www.commonwealthu.edu/earlycollege , rather than each institution’s legacy site. Each legacy site will direct them right to the new CU page. New application process:

Students will apply via: Early College Application (commonwealthu.edu)

An authorization to participate form will be emailed to the parent/guardian that the student identifies on the application.

Students will download and complete this fillable form (https://www.bloomu.edu/ecauthorization) with their school counselor. School Counselors will return the form and a copy of transcripts via email to earlycollege@commonwealthu.edu

Once all materials are received, and the parent/guardian and school counselor authorize permission, a student will be admitted to the program. For information, contact Kendra Rockwell at krockwell@commonwealthu.edu or 570-389-4824.

Marketing and Communications SharePoint Site

The URL for the Marketing and Communications SharePoint changed following the recent Office 365 migration. Please update your bookmarks with this new URL: https://commonwealthu.sharepoint.com/sites/CommonwealthUMarCom/

  • The MarCom SharePoint is a useful resource to access:
  • Logos & Style Guide
  • Email Signature, Letterhead, PowerPoint Templates
  • Project Request Form & Stationery Store Links
  • CU Documents

Also, please be aware that the official abbreviations for Commonwealth University are Commonwealth U or CU. This and other helpful information on the CU brand are included in the Brand Style Guide within the MarCom SharePoint.

Stationery Website
An online ordering site has been launched for branded stationery, business cards, name tags, and more in partnership with AlphaGraphics. The website includes stationery branded with Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield together as Commonwealth University for employees who work across campuses along with individually-branded Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield items for employees focused on a single campus – including Athletic specific business cards. Additional products will be added as we continue to build the website.

STATIONERY WEBSITE (please bookmark). A Quick Steps guide for ordering is available HERE

MarComm Request Form
Please continue to use the MarComm Request Form to submit projects that need support from the Marketing and Communications Department.
Note: Due to the very high volume of requests, projects will be prioritized beginning with those that directly impact enrollment and those that are externally-facing. The MarComm team may not be able to honor all requests, but have numerous tools and resources that can help to accomplish your goals. We will be conducting some brand training sessions in coming weeks so we can connect with your teams, including GAs and student workers.

Logos and Branding
If you need a CommonwealthU logo file or any of the legacy logo files, please email Senior Director for University Marketing and Brand Management Ryan McNamara at rmcnamar@mansfield.edu.

LinkedIn
A Commonwealth University of PA LinkedIn page has been created so employees with a LinkedIn profile can share their new role and responsibilities with their network. Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield alumni are encouraged to continue listing their individual university pages under the education section on LinkedIn.

Video Series Highlights Free Education Resources

Commonwealth University’s OER Institute team is offering three short faculty development videos about open educational resources (OER), those teaching and learning materials that you may freely use and reuse at no cost, and without needing to ask permission:

  • OER: What Are They and Are They Any Good.  Have you heard about OER but aren't sure what they are, how they can be offered for free, and if they are any good?  This video provides a short overview.  Running time ~9 minutes.
  • OER: How to Find Them. Wondering how to find an OER to use in your class?  This video provides five possible ways to find OERs. Running time 18 minutes.
  • OER: How to Evaluate Them. Wondering if an OER you found will work for your class?  This video provides three ways to evaluate OERs. Running time ~7 minutes.

To watch one or more videos, go here. After you watch your video(s) of choice, complete the short questionnaire to earn a certificate of completion. Certificates are available through Jan. 31. Questions? Contact BU librarian Katie Yelinek kyelinek@bloomu.edu.

International Students

Currently, Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, and Mansfield are awaiting approval from the Department of Homeland Security to operate in SEVIS as Commonwealth University. As this process continues, the DHS has asked us to stop issuing new I-20 Forms. Unfortunately, we must defer all international students, who would like to start in the spring, to fall 2023. The Global Education office is working diligently with the United States government to assure our processes remain compliant and that we receive an integrated SEVIS ID as quickly as possible. Email Rosana Campbell, director of the Center for Global Engagement, at rcampbel@lockhaven.edu with any questions or concerns.
