Bloomsburg University will offer swim lessons during April for both novice and intermediate-level youth swimmers.
Instructors for the lessons will be members of the BU coaching staff and BU swim team members. Swimming lessons will be held at the Nelson Field House pool on the upper campus.
The program's focus is to give each swimmer individual attention and aim to have a 6:1 student to teacher ratio.
There are two levels of lessons:
Level 1 — Novice is for young children still learning to become more comfortable in the water. Skills learned at this level include entering the pool safely, going under the water, holding their breath, floating, kicking, and retrieving submerged objects.
Level II — Intermediate includes children who have mastered all Level I skills. They will learn the basics of swimming, including kicking on both back and stomach, streamlining off the wall, rhythmic breathing, and the introduction of other strokes. One-on-one private lessons and parent and child lessons can be available upon request.
Lessons will be held Monday through Thursday for three weeks. Each lesson will be 40 minutes long and parents must be present during the lessons.
Three sessions to be offered:
Week 1 — April 4-7
Week 2 — April 11-14
Week 3 — April 18-21
Lesson Times:
Level I-II — 4-4:40 p.m.
Level I-II — 4:50-5:30 p.m.
The cost per week is $80 per swimmer.
