Per the 2-Year Residency Requirement, all full-time undergraduate students are required by Commonwealth University to live in University housing for their first four semesters (not including summer and winter sessions). The residency requirement also applies to readmitted students and transfer students who have not completed two years of on-campus residency at another university post-high school.

Students who qualify and wish to be exempt from the housing requirement will need to follow the steps below, and may be asked to provide appropriate documentation related to their petition.

  • Requesting Housing Exemption (if you qualify):
  1. Log in to MyHousing Self-Service
  2. Select the "Applications" link at the top of the screen
  3. Select "New Student Exemption (2023/FA)" from the drop down menu
  4. Follow prompts to complete your exemption request
    1. Choose the exemption reason that applies to your situation. Only the exemptions listed are considered valid exemptions.
    2. Once complete, you may be asked to provide documentation. If further documentation is necessary, you will be contacted via your Mansfield email address.

As stated in the Housing and Dining Agreement, Pennsylvania State Law requires all students living in University housing, to either have the meningitis vaccine or sign a declination statement after having received information concerning the benefits of receiving the meningitis vaccine. Students who do not either have the vaccination or sign the declination statement will not be permitted to reside in University housing.

When completing the Housing & Dining Agreement/Application, students will be asked if they have received the meningitis vaccination. The choices are either yes (if the vaccine was received) or no (if the vaccine was not received and is being waived).

Housing Selection for New Students

Housing Selection for New Students is the process through which all new full-time undergraduate students, including transfer students and readmitted students, will sign up to live on campus for the upcoming Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 academic year.

Welcome future on-campus housing residents! Mansfield University students who do not currently live on-campus can begin registering/selecting 2024-2025 housing on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 12:00 PM.

Research shows that the benefits of the on-campus residential experience have great
positive impact on first-year students, directly helping transition from living at home to university life.
Second-year students benefit from the continued stability of campus residential life to support their
academic and social development. This is often translated into success in completing college and doing
so more often in four years. For these and many more reasons, all 1st and 2nd year students
(including Transfer students) are required to live on-campus (some exemptions apply).

First-Year Residential Experience (FYRE)

In an effort to ensure that First-Year students have a smooth transition into university life, Student Living is designing a community that will facilitate opportunities for students to become exposed to essential intellectual and co-curricular opportunities allowing them to become engaged during their time living on-campus.

The FYRE program will provide the opportunity for incoming first-year students to live with one another and create new friendships. It is a great way for incoming first-year students to begin their CU-Mansfield experience! Students will have the opportunity to meet many of their classmates and develop lasting friendships, attend interesting and engaging activities specific to the unique needs and interests of first-year students, and learn valuable information about life on campus.

The FYRE program will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, based on application date!

Fraternity & Sorority Life Community

Those students involved with Fraternity & Sorority Life here at Commonwealth University - Mansfield are housed in Spruce. This community enhances Fraternity & Sorority Life by attracting potential members and providing a residential site for organizations to flourish and expand.

Residents wishing to be part of their fraternity/sorority community in Spruce must complete Step 1. Fraternity & Sorority Life members, remember that special provisions still require a minimum of four (4) members of each organization to live on-campus and in the Chapter E unit to qualify for premium locations. Information on specific room selections will be sent to organization representatives.

Upper-Class Independent Living Hall (UILH)

Upper-Class Independent Living Hall (UILH) is a unique residence hall that will embody the core values of the Mansfield Creed and is designed to cater to the specific needs of an upper-class student population, age 21+ only, as they prepare to graduate. Programs will be specifically geared towards career/life preparation skills such as graduate school searches, job searching, securing an apartment, proper business etiquette, etc.

UILH functions as a transition between on-campus housing and housing off campus, which is a reason why students are afforded increased levels of independence, notably the ability for 21+ students to consume alcohol on the specified floor within the 21+ Community (Sycamore 4th Floor). These additions also establish Commonwealth University - Mansfield housing accommodations as direct competition with other universities that offer similar choices.
